On Friday, May 12, 2023, the supporters of the National Council of Resistance of Iran held a demonstration in front of the regime’s embassy in Brussels, in addition to condemning the recent executions in Iran, they demanded from Belgium and European countries to adopt a decisive policy against the regime to stop executions in Iran. The protestors demanded the closure of the embassies of the regime of murder and execution in Brussels, and referring to the message of Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, President of the National Council of Resistance of Iran, they emphasized that the regime’s use of the death sentence against protesters and opponents shows the irreconcilable war of the Iranian people with this anti-human regime. It is that the winning side of this war, no matter how long it takes, will be the people and the resistance of Iran.
The demonstration was welcomed by the European Photo Agency, EPA, and the official Belgian news agency, Belga. The Belga news agency wrote in its detailed report of the demonstration: Iranian supporters of the National Council of Resistance gathered in Brussels in front of the regime’s embassy to condemn the executions carried out in Iran in recent weeks.
Organizers say 67 people were hanged by the regime in May. According to the latest statistics compiled by the Iranian Human Rights NGO, 223 Iranians have been executed since the beginning of this year.
The rally was organized by supporters of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), a coalition of Iranian opposition organizations, groups and figures abroad. Organizers wrote before the demonstration: “Khamenei is clearly seeking war with the people of Iran with these executions. The only way is revolution.” Mahdi Nobari, the organizer of the demonstration and the secretary of the non-profit association of culture, art and human rights of Iran, said: “The purpose of executions in Iran is to create an atmosphere of terror and revenge for the widespread uprisings in recent months in Iran.”
The participants waved Iranian resistance flags and placards with the number of people executed in recent months. Also, signs with demands and names, photos and stories of Iranians who were hanged were installed. Demonstrators say to close all Iranian embassies. Demonstrators then symbolically closed their eyes and symbolically recreated the execution row in a performance to pay respect to the executed who were also blindfolded before the execution. Mehdi Nobri adds: “Our responsibility is to be here today and be the voice of the victims. We ask the Belgian government to take a firm position and condemn these mass executions.” The organizers also demand that the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps be added to the list of terrorist organizations of the European Union.
