Blacklist IRGC: Iranian Opposition rally in front of the EU parliament

Simultaneously with the opening of the European Parliament on Wednesday, July 24, 2024, supporters of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) rallied in front of the EU Parliament, calling for a strong stance vis-à-vis the Iranian regime in upcoming legislation.

Iranians holding banners which calls for “regime change in Iran”. On their placards they demand EU leaders and representatives to designate IRGC (the ideological army of the regime) as a terrorist organization. IRGC plays a significant role on internal suppression and warmongering and terrorism in the region and around the world.

Protesters highlight the last report by Professor Javid Rehman, the special reporter of the United Nations, in which it condemns the Iranian regime for crime against humanity and genocide during the killings of PMOI prisoners in 1981, 1982 and 1988 in Iran. In 1988 more than 30,000 political prisoners mainly affiliated to the MEK/PMOI (axis party of the NCRI) were executed within a few month.

Ms. Rajavi, president-elect of the NCRI stated on her X account: “the UN Security Council must take decisive steps to arrange the trial of Ali Khamenei and other senior regime officials, including the head of the judiciary, numerous judicial authorities, #IRGC commanders, and others involved in these atrocities. Engaging in deals and negotiations with a regime whose leaders are directly implicated in crimes against humanity and genocide constitutes a severe breach of fundamental and universal human rights principles. The international community’s failure to act against this regime over the past four decades has allowed such atrocities to persist, as evidenced by the massacre of protesters in 2019 and 2022.”

While Iranian lobbies and advocates claim that the appointment of Masoud Pezeshkian as the new President, is a step towards a less radical regime, during the last 10 days, 14 prisoners have been executed in Iran, including a woman. The morality police have extended their repressive measures against women in Iran, and the Iranian regime’s proxy war via the Houthis and Iraqi militias has continued, indicating that the clerical regime will persist in its destructive role both at home and abroad.

The Iranian community calls on the European Parliament to use its influence to prompt the EU Council to officially designate the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist organization. Additionally, NCRI supporters in Belgium demand that Europe take action to end Iran’s hostage-taking diplomacy and hold Iranian regime officials accountable for crimes against humanity, as documented by Amnesty International and the Special Rapporteur’s reports.
