Dr. Alejo Vidal-Quadras, President of the International Committee In Search of Justice and former Vice President of the European Parliament (1999-2014), experienced a terrorist attack in Madrid. Riding a motorcycle, attackers tried to carry out an act of terror, leading to his hospitalization and subsequent surgery after being targeted by gunmen from the opposite direction.
The Iranian community in Belgium strongly condemns this terrorist act. While expressing hopes for Mr. Vidal-Quadras’s speedy recovery and showing deep solidarity with his family, we emphasize the prosecution of those responsible for this terrorist act and their accomplices.
Dr. Alejo Vidal-Quadras has consistently supported the Iranian people and their resistance in their struggle for freedom and human rights over the past quarter-century. The Iranian community in Belgium was honored to host Dr. Vida-Quadras at several events and conferences in Brussels where his insightful comments and speeches exposed the Iranian regime’s threats to international peace and security.
The antagonism of the Iranian regime towards Dr. Alejo Vidal-Quadras is widely known, as he was one of the first politicians placed on the regime’s terrorist list. From the perspective of the Iranian community in Belgium, the primary suspect in this case is the ruling religious fascism in Iran. We reiterate that such crimes and brutality are a direct consequence of the appeasement policy of the European countries towards Iran which unleashed the Iranian regime’s terror network and emboldened this regime to an extent that allows it to target well-known European politicians on the EU soil.
