Iranian diaspora in Brussels calls EU to prosecute Ebrahim Raisi for his crimes against humanity


August 3, the next president of the Iranian regime received its decree from the supreme leader Ali Khamenei to get ready for the inauguration day in Parliament. His appointment after a nationwide boycott of presidential election in Iran has already shaken the foundation of Iranian regime. In addition, protests and demonstrations have spread across the country, started from Khuzestan to Tabriz, and Tehran.
Besides, the new president in Iran, Ebrahim Raisi has a dark history of human rights violation. He was a member of death commission during 1988 massacre when 30,000 political prisoners were executed. Moreover, he played a significant role in the suppression of 2019 uprising in Iran that at least 1500 protesters were killed in streets. Navid Afkari, the Iranian wrestler was executed during his term as the head of the judiciary despite the international outcry to halt the verdict.

In protest to his appointment as the next president in Iran, Iranian diaspora, supporters of the National Council of Resistance of Iran, rally in several capitals around the world including Brussels. More than 50 Iranians rallied in Schumanplein and held an exhibition in the memory of martyrs of 1988 massacre in Iran. NCRI supporters hold a large banner which calls EU to prosecute Ebrahim Raisi for his crimes against humanity. Hundreds of photos of martyrs cover Schuman square and some families of martyrs are amongst protesters. Iranians on their signs hold the pictures of the Iranian opposition leader, Maryam Rajavi, and signs in support of recent demonstrations in Iran.

MP Brussels parliament (Latifa Aït Baala (MR)) joined Iranian dissidents in Brussels and called for the prosecution of Ebrahim Raisi as well.
Maryam Rajavi, president-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran, described the appointment of Ebrahim Raisi as a test for the international community. “For the international community, Raisi presents a historic test. Will they engage and deal with this criminal regime or will they stand with the Iranian people? The Iranian people have clearly rejected Raisi, describing him as the “1988 henchman.” #ProsecuteRaisiNow” She said.
